Abstract

Employee engagement has increasingly been recognized as a critical factor influencing the success of organizational sustainability initiatives. As organizations strive to balance economic performance with social responsibility and environmental stewardship, the active involvement and commitment of employees become essential for achieving long-term sustainability goals. This study presents a thematic literature review that explores the relationship between employee engagement and organizational sustainability. Relevant academic literature was identified through major scholarly databases using keywords related to employee engagement, organizational sustainability, and corporate social responsibility. The selected studies were systematically analyzed using thematic analysis to identify recurring patterns and conceptual relationships within the literature. The analysis revealed three dominant themes: leadership and organizational support for sustainability, corporate social responsibility and meaningful work, and employee participation in sustainability initiatives. The findings suggest that supportive leadership practices, socially responsible organizational strategies, and opportunities for employee involvement play significant roles in strengthening employee engagement toward sustainability goals. Moreover, engaged employees contribute actively to sustainability initiatives by demonstrating commitment, innovation, and responsible workplace behaviors. The study contributes to the growing body of literature on sustainable organizational practices by synthesizing existing research and highlighting the mechanisms through which employee engagement supports sustainability outcomes. The review also identifies directions for future research aimed at further understanding the role of human factors in achieving sustainable organizational development.
